Vyatta project is a Linux-based router and firewall offering a free community edition and two commercial editions with support. Vyatta has changed the networking world by developing the first commercially supported, open-source router & firewall solution. In the subscription edition, there is an option to download Virtual Machine template for VMware & XenServer, Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) for Hyper V. To install in Redhat KVM & Amazon Web Services (AWS) there is a prebuilt system image and can be downloaded and is available only with Vyatta subscription edition. As a former Vyatta employee I can tell you that Brocade never “got” opensource. Frankly, they never understood what they bought. Brocade bought into the market positioning that Vyatta was SDN company – and they wanted some of that magic pixie dust to rub off on them, But Vyatta, though software, had no integration into SDN controllers, no separation of data and management planes .
